Carbide Motion Time Estimate Errors

If you have any G-code/C2D files where Carbide Motion and reality disagree on the time to machine them, please post below so we can look into it.

We’re looking for files that are really far off, not 10-20% on a short job, which can be explained by acceleration/deceleration time or tool change time.

I had sent you a large C2D file named TheView for your performance tests.

It is an image trace of a house and some surroundings.

I have the 14 MB TheView.2d file if you don’t still have it.

I have some 3D scallops path that max’s the Pro 5 to about 25 ipm (per CM) in 3 axis moves.

Do you host a web folder that can be used for these types of community donations ?

I don’t see it. If you can post it here, or send it to sales@carbide3d.com with “ATTN: Rob” in the title, I’ll get it that way.

Also, if you can add a note, either here or in email, with the actual running time that you saw, that would be helpful.

Estimate: 13 minutes
Actual: 16:15, to +25%

This includes 3 tool changes, approx 45 seconds each.
timeTest.c2d (1.5 MB)

This is for Toolpath Group “Back / Logo”

Estimate: 36 minutes
Actual: 48 minutes, so +33%

Includes 2 tool changes (approx 45 seconds each), plus several “Please change to the tool that is already in the machine” trips to the BitSetter.

timeTest.c2d (1.7 MB)

Please let me know if Sales@carbide3d.com got a link to my Google drive folder Carbide3d.

Pretty sure it’s a deceleration calc issue I’ve seen it alot on more intricate peices, things with alot of rads etc any time you have to change directions it doesnt actually happen instantly and accounting for the deceleration is difficult especially when you dont fully get up to speed again before coming into the next major decel.

Yes - This issue occurs almost 100% of the time when running engraving toolpaths. Using the MC Etcher Diamond Bit, I added a monogram to an acrylic tray for my wife. Time estimate was 67 mins. While I didnt clock it exactly, it took just over 2 hrs to complete. I’ve attached the gcode for that most recent experience. If you want the c2d file, let me know.

Johnson Acrlyic Tray.nc (1.2 MB)

As an aside, Im currently running another engraving toothpath job with a Freud engraving bit. Time estimate was 32 mins…currently at 35 mins, but I’m looking at the job now and its only half way done…

You can try the latest beta and see if the changes we made make it more accurate.

I actually did exactly that after making this post and boom! - time estimates became accurate. Thank you!
