Carbide Motion upgrade...DO IT if you haven't!

I just wanted to put a plug in here for those who may not have upgraded Carbide Motion in a while. I’m pretty sure I hadn’t since I first purchased my Pro5 a year ago. I was running 640 the whole time until recently I upgraded to 659. The improvements are REALLY great.

The ones I noticed immediately were:

  • When finishing the carve the spindle heads to the back right so when you start up the CNC next time there is next to no travel time.
  • Jogging is SO much faster!
  • “Bits used” screen is much more pleasant on my aging eyes (larger font inside a nice boxed in area for each bit).

Those are the improvements that I noticed immediately and I’m sure there are more that I haven’t utilized. But…HOLY COW! Just those are awesome. So if you haven’t upgraded in a while, I surely HIGHLY recommend it!

Gary,I am on the latest CM and been doing some long hours over the past few days v carving and what I notice how robust for want of a better phrase it is,I get a confident vibe using it.

Gary, I agree with the solidity of CM, but I wish jogging were about 50% slower on my N4. (Or maybe, that my reflexes were about 200% faster… :joy: )

I agree, the latest is great, but I don’t really like that at the end of the job, the spindle goes to the home position. Scares me to death that I have successfully completed a carve and off it goes into the wild blue yonder. Perfered the old way where is stops until I am ready to move it. Just saying.

I was scared to death for another reason yesterday.

I hit start on a job and my air compressor kicked on at that instant due to a small leak in the system. Is is about 2 feet from my CNC. I jumped out of my skin.
