Need some advice or pointers…In my shop I am attempting to utilize a MacBook Pro running Linux Ubuntu 24.04 to control my S3XXL. I’ve installed Winetricks and installed both Windows versions of Carbide Create (which runs fine) and Carbide Motion. CM 640 loads and looks fine, until I attempt to connect to the S3 during Setup New Machine, at which point it never establishes a connection. I know the Mac is fine because when I boot in MacOS (very old version), CM establishes connection and can cut with no issues. Linux recognizes other USB attached devices mouse, keyboard, external hard drive…just not the controller. Thoughts / Suggestions? Thanks in Advance
Carbide Motion requires hardware access which usually emulation and the like (yes, I know, Wine is not an emulator) interferes with.
Most of the folks interested in opensource just use a Raspberry Pi:
That said, there are a number of opensource communication/control options — we used to recommend Universal G-code Sender, and I’ve always been fond of bCNC (and not just because I pitched in a bit early on), and for a while all the cool kids seemed to be using CNCjs (or whatever the capitalization is).
Thanks Will. I had moved off my RPI previously when I was having some issues (incorrectly thinking the RPI was the issue)…before upgrading control board and moving to Z-Plus. Is CM 635 the latest version that will run on the RPI? Is it compatible with the new control board (S3XXL, Z-Plus) that I upgraded to when moving to the Z-Plus? Thanks for the assist!
Yes, that is the current build for the rPi, and it works with Grbl 1.1 as is current on our boards/machines.
