Carbide Motion V6 Beta

The permissions are different for those.

That’s fine in the short term, hopefully not a long term solution.

And my PI is inside a touch monitor case. It has to be removed from the whole thing to get to the card so I try to minimize that. I will make a backup of my current setup for sure before updating either CM or the OS.

@robgrz The latest version I installed (11) did resolve the issue where the “turn on the router” dialog was not displaying…confirmed.

A while back we had discussed the possibility of Motion showing the step within a list of steps with the “time remaining” and “percent complete” of each step displayed… is that still on the horizon?

I swear when I first got my machine it did show the time left per step and then one day it was showing total job time left. I figured I messed something up.

I still have that tab open in my browser to keep it in mind. It’s not on any official todo list, but we’re keeping it in mind.

We’re planning to make CM 613 an official release today or tomorrow. Any final feedback?

I would really appreciate keyboard shortcuts for feed rate override +/- and feed rate reset. Probably not possible for this design cycle, a spindle (commanded) speed display and spindle speed override feature. With the router I could just pause and turn the dial up, not as simple with a VFD.

The feedrate shortcuts already exist:

1 = 0.001" or 0.1mm
2 = 0.010" or 1.0mm
3= 0.100" or 10mm
4= Fast

Since they just increased the Fast to really fast, I would like to see 4 as a…um… slower fast, and 5 as fast-fast. :smiley:

I have not tried the windows version but when you do the PI build can you look into the key buffer?
I am using the TechKeys board and it seems to overload CM when holding down any axis move key for a bit. Sometimes a short bit. The move will pause and CM shows busy. It would resume until you let up on the key and let it clear.

I assumed it was a hardware issue but when I open a terminal window the keys just keep scrolling away as long as I have it pressed. The touch screen does not have the issue so I am using it to get close and then the TechKeys for fine adjustments now.

Can you add in a retract to Z limit switch when pausing? My s03 running an older version did this and I’ve used it a few times. My s05 running a newer motion does not.

Hi Josh, I’m using those already on a stream deck and they work great. Adding the options for feed rate and reset would make it even better. Extending that to add the same for Spindle speed would be a big help for VFD users.

I think I get where you’re going. Are you referring to RPM when you say “feed rate”? Because the 1-4 keys are for feed rate. If you mean RPM for a spindle, I 100% agree. Being able to bump up/down spindle RPM as well as feed rate would be awesome. That’s the singular thing I miss about a router. :slight_smile:

Hi Josh,

CM has buttons for feed rate +10%, minus 10%, and reset. I would like keyboard short cuts for those to be able to add them on my stream deck. I would also love to see the same added for the Spindle speed, only useful for VFD users.

The 1-4 buttons are only for setting Jog Feeds. I’m talking about feed rate override during program execution.

Gotcha…I was being dense there. I’ve either had too much coffee, or not enough. :smiley: Agreed. Having those keymapped is a great idea.

OK, Installed 613, and appears to be a go. I copied my current USER Quick Action data into Excel and back into the new version and was able to save it all.

  1. can’t seem to find where I can manually adjust the “Y” travel in settings like the last version. I have a 2 x 4 with an enclosure and had limited it to 600 mm so the sweep wouldn’t hit the front of the cabinet. Is there a way to adjust the travel?

  2. I noticed the new pause-stop sequence and was wondering if there would be a way to lift the Z while in pause to see the work/and bit and/or have the Z automatically lift when paused and stop?

I do believe you still have a defect that spans CC and CM that I reported here. It seems to have a CM component based on the fact that toolpaths will be cut in CM that don’t show up in CC, nor in exported GCode. [EDIT] Not sure if you were following that thread, but I can fill you in on what I found. CM
s interpretation of the c2d file is faulty in this circumstance

The Y-axis jogging limit in CM appears to be set for -859.000mm for a ProXXL.
On mine, this allows the Y-axis to hit the physical end plates of the rails during jogging, skipping steps in the process & throwing off the Initialization calibration & any Y-axis zero point.
I believe either the Y-axis jogging limit needs to be limited to -856.000mm or, and this is my preferred option, the jogging limits of CM should be user adjustable as they have been in previous versions.
I don’t see how I could gain 3mm towards the back of the machine thru any adjustment the Y-axis proximity sensor.

Noticed the download is no longer beta and now official release for Windows and MacOS so I’m assuming we’ll see the version for Pi soon :slight_smile:

I am testing this out for the first time. Build 613. I just got the prompt on the HDM to change the spindle rpm. Can I disable that?
