Carbide3d Router and Makita Compatability

I bought a used XL that had a Carbide3d Router. The router shaft moved back and forth like it has a bad bearing. I bought a new Makita to replace the C3D Router. The C3D router has two precision collets and my question is can I use these collets with the Makita. I have not measured them but they look exactly alike.

Can I use the C3D collets in the Makita?

Yes, the Carbide Compact Router and Makita RT0701/0700 use the same/interchangeable:

  • collets
  • collet nut
  • brushes
  • bearings
  • main alu. housing
  • motor and shaft

The only things which are different (I believe) are the top plasting housing and controls and control board (because of the differing control layout).

Thanks Will. I have some extra brushes for the C3D router. I may try to fix the C3d Router and use the Makita base for a trim router. I thought they would be comparable. On my new Makita and the C3D router even the top housing look alike just different colors.

That’s a big change (for the Makita) — could you post a photo? Can’t help but be curious. I’d heard that there was a change for the Makita, but wasn’t sure of what exactly it was.

When the trim routers which were much like the Makita first started appearing the first example (the MLCS Rocky 30) actually used photos of the Makita in the initial PDF manual.

Will you are right as usual. I did not hold them up side by side. But the grill on top is so similar.

Thanks!

Other than the control layout things are much the same.
