Hi one and all, I have just bought my Pro5 4x4 and it’s still in the boxes until I’ve built my new workshop. I am a carveco maker user and I want to keep using it, but I also use ‘candle’ for my gcode sender software, is carbide motion the same as ‘candle’ and will my Pro5 work straight off with designs made in carveco maker or will it be best to use Carbide create V7? I’m in the United Kingdom and I’m fairly new to CNC, October 2023 first started making things, so I’m hoping for help with things please?
Yes, Candle is a communication/control program like to Carbide Motion — why would you prefer to use it? CM is pretty simple/straight-forward and has a number of new features.
If you wish to/are able to use Carveco Maker it will work fine — Carbide Create’s big advantage is that it is bundled with the machines and we can support it, but if you’re already able to make files, then you should be good to go (but again, we’d be curious why you’d prefer the program with the monthly bill).
Did I say I ‘prefer’ one over the other? No! It was a rather simple question that didn’t require such an arrogant reply, thank you.
Keep in mind that Will works for Carbide3D, so he’s inclined to encourage the use of their products.
The simple answer to his question would be, “Your accustomed to Carveco & Candle” so it’s a smaller learning curve to continue working.
Candle is a GRBL controller, so it should work with your machine & you could continue to use both.
I would take a look at CC & CM. They are both simple to use & free/cheap. And as he mentioned they are both supported here.
Hi Chris and welcome to the forum!
Sounds like the earlier post was just misconstrued, and I feel there was no bad intent.
I personally would like to welcome you to the community, and glad to have you aboard!
P.S. Hope you enjoy your 5 Pro as much as I do mine.
Hi Chris. Welcome to the Carbide 3D forum! I use an old standard size Shapeoko 3. I use Carveco Maker for all of my 3D work. I also use gSender, Carbide Motion, Carbide Create and have been learning two more 3D software options recently. I have had no problem with saving out Carveco Maker files for Carbide 3D in mm with the post-processor that Carveco provide. All of those saved files have run faultlessly.
I recently started to learn two new to me 3D software packages. Plasticity which is a paid for software and has a non parametric approach to 3D modelling, which I happen to think is really intuitive. The paid for copy buys a perpetual licence and I think it is great value because I have got two seats with the Indie version. I run one seat on a Mac and one seat on a PC and I use the Mac and Microsoft’s RDP to access my PC.
Another recent software acquisition is Siemens Solid Edge Community Edition (free) which is parametric and uses the Parasolid engine. I don’t know how much it has in common with NX (also from the Siemens stable) but it is super capable and the graphic user interface looks far more logical to my eyes than Fusion 360 ever did.
Finally, I am a Brit living in the UK.
