Help! I had a piece come loose while cutting a pocket. The workpiece climbed the bit and started spinning around. I hit the emergency stop button and then I raised the spindle to remove the workpiece. I noticed 2 small springs on the table. The spindle no longer holds it’s z axis and slowly falls (with power off) until it hits the table. How big of a fix is this? I have one more project to make for this wedding job for this Saturday so I hope it’s not a tough fix.

Thos springs come from the dove tail mount on the side of the spindle mount.
The Z will automatically drop with power off, unless you have the gas strut kit.
If you can share some more pictures we might be able to advise more.

Thanks. I can see where those springs go. I assume they go in the 2 holes in the body of the dovetail machined part to keep the dovetail clamp part from closing too tightly on any accessory that might be used in that dovetail clamp.
My z axis has never just slowly dropped to the table whenever I have hit the red emergency stop button or tur
ned off the machine so this is a new issue to me.

So what? As long as it goes where you want when the power is on, then you’re OK. Do a test piece to verify that.
Correct. There should be a M3 or M4 screw on the inside of the knob which stops the assembly from coming off.
Z axis dropping when not under power is completely normal.

I always put a block of wood ( longer than the bit in the spindle ) under the spindle before shutting it off. Mine will drop 7 out of 10 times.
I never know when it will happen.
