Actually, the clamps are from Lee Valley/Garrett Wade:

The thing which makes them work is the “speed nuts” which can be canted to slide along the threaded rods, but which catch the thread when straightened — they’re sold separately by Lee Valley for use in fixtures and jigs — I used them in:
