Started a small cutting board inlay w/a colored epoxy. The plan was to fill each void about half way and come back w/a clear top coat. Unfortunately the smaller pockets filled completely. I’m thinking if I use a 1/16 end mill at 1/4 the original depth I’ll creat sufficient gap and roughing to put in a clear coat, thoughts?
I think I would just fill it with the clear. It doesn’t look like any of the epoxy is sticking up above the surface. Some of the clear will be thicker/thinner, but I doubt it will be noticeable.
Let that 2nd coat of epoxy dry for a long time until fully cured so they don’t separate when surfacing.

Looks to me like some of it is definitely above the wood surface, especially at the lower left.
Maybe fill the recessed areas with clear and leave the overfilled areas alone. The might give a slightly different look and differentiate the areas in an artful way? This would be especially appropriate if the overfilled areas uniformly apply to, say the legs.
