I’m gonna call it! Congratulations, Steve. Very cool entry.
That said, they were all cool entries. Good to see some practical projects, and creativity diverging from wavy flags & cribbage boards.

Thanks to those who entered, and to those that voted.

Turns out I had extra aluminum so I made 7 of the sanding discs. So I’m going to award 1 to each of the contestants. PM me your address & I’ll get them shipped out. :slight_smile:

I’m keeping one for myself, so that leaves 2 up for grabs. If you really want one, it’s yours for the cost of shipping.

As for using them, look for 2" adhesive backed sanding discs. I would recommend 40 grit, 60 if you’re looking for a finer finish. Any higher & you’ll be changing them quite often.
With 40 grit I can take up to 0.005" at a time, with 60 grit I’d probably go 0.002"
Any more & they heat up and the adhesive fails. You don’t want to frisbee that sucker into something or someone. I use the slowest RPM for my 3". I suspect that will work fine for the 2" version as well.

How effective is the low profile dust deputy?

I haven’t had it long enough to render a strong opinion. This low profile dust deputy replaces a dust deputy cyclone that I had on a shop-vac cart. I got the low profile so I could go vertical and reduce the footprint of the vacuum (my shop is small so every square foot counts). So far, it seems to work about as good as the cyclone. The reviews out there seem to grade this one the best of the low-profile options (like the Dustopper, Kreg and Rockler).

@terryawatkins

I use this on my 5 Pro with a Dewalt Stealthsonic. This is one of several small Thein style separators I use and it works very well for its intended purpose, allowing a fairly small form factor to prevent clogging the vacuum filters. If you’re using MDF extensively you probably need to get the cyclone design separators. In my experience they work better than the low profile model from Oneida & Dustopper from HD.
