Just a simple comparison for anyone interested.
If you’re going to use a hard wired controller, why not use a hard wired numeric keypad? I used this one for $8 and it works great. I more recently coupled it with this dust-free keyboard which also provides a numeric keypad with keys that can’t get stuck from dust and my 10" Fusion 5, Win-10 tablet and the whole setup is completely functional and efficient. I put a USB Wired mouse on it too, because I prefer the option of using the ergonomics of a mouse of use the touchscreen.
I don’t find the numlock key to be an issue…as long as the controller has a light that indicates which mode its in. The sequence of pressing num-lock, 1-4, numlock is automatic now…and takes less than a second.
