I use a Dell XPS 13 to run Carbide. I am doing a show & tell to some people interested in CNC. My Dell has two Type C ports and I use one for the charging port as my battery is about shot. What I want to do is to connect to a TV via HDMI and then to my Shapeoko. But I only have 1 port. Is there some type of devise that can connect allowing for it to look like 2 independent ports?
You would want a USB-C dongle/docking station which has both USB-A and HDMI connections (some will also have a power in via USB-C or other source allowing power in as well, allowing a single connector to essentially “dock” a laptop (or tablet))
Unfortunately, compatibility for such devices is not well-described — I have 4 such at home, and it’s something of a chore keeping track of which one works with what computer and which devices/combinations of devices.
I have a USB hub that is connected to my USB A port and all my other things plug into that. My HP has 2 USB A ports and one C. I have a wireless keyboard button in one of the USB A so that is tied up. I have not looked but you can likely find a USB A hub with a USB C connector.
Here is one that USB A with a USB C connector
There were several that had HDMI ports as well on Amazon.com
