Copy and Paste between Open Windows

Is there a reason when you have two windows open in Create that you cannot copy and paste between them?

It is incredibly annoying that this simple operation is not supported as it would greatly enhance my workflow.

You can copy /paste design elements between open windows but not toolpaths. If I want to reuse toolpaths I just rename the file and save it.

It should work:

Build 802

NewAdded the ability to paste an SVG from the clipboard.

If not, update.

Note that the pasteboard is controlled by the OS as it interacts with applications and in my experience, switching to certain applications can alter what is there.

Also you can open one C2D file into another. Or used to be able to do that. It brings in everything though so you. May have to clean up the toolpaths.

I’m running version 836 of Carbide Create Pro, and it does not support copy and paste between windows. I’m not switching between any other apps, only in Create with two windows open.

I’m not trying to paste an SVG into a window; I’m trying to copy parts of a design from one file to another using multiple open windows.

There is a painful workaround where I can save the elements I would like to copy over as an SVG and then import that SVG into the file I’m working on. But that makes it very tedious.

Would be nice if it worked.

Certainly does not appear to be able to do that in the latest version. It would be very handy if that worked, as it would allow me to accomplish what I have been trying to do.

The import doesn’t support C2D filetype? It’s been a while since I used CC but I thought that is how I used to do it.

Aah, yes, you are right; if I use the Import button, it will let me bring in another C2D file. I thought it only worked with SVG files. That is handy.

Are you running any 3rd party utilities which affect the pasteboard?

Do you have the multiple pasteboard option enabled in Windows?

select

copy and switch windows and paste

(I think I also pasted in place in the first window)

Wow, thank you for that, @WillAdams! I had no idea clipboard history on Windows was a thing. Decades ago, when I was using a Mac Plus (the first desktop PC actually on my desk at work…) I had a multi-clipboard but not since then.

Robin,
I’m running 846, but I know that the feature has been around for a long time. It does work for me. Is there a particular object that’s not copying for you, or is it everything (a simple rectangle, for example)?

Just worked for me too…

I’m not using Windows; I’m running on a Mac. Maybe it is just not working on the Mac. I have tried numerous times with a lot of different objects and have never been able to get it to work.

I just got a MacBook Neo to use as the controller for my CNC machine, and I keep it very barebones with only Create and Motion running on it, and it does not work there either.

I’ll keep trying!

In my case I was trying to copy over some text vectors, but I also tried a simple circle with no luck.

Just tried it again on the Neo with a simple circle, no luck.

I am on Mac book air m2 and can not get it to work for love or money

Yes, I just tested it on a MacBook Air M4, and it does not work there either, and it certainly does not work on my desktop MacMini M4.

Be nice to see this fixed.

It works on my MacBook Air M4. macOS Tahoe 26.3.1(a). CC 842 Beta

That is really bizarre that it would work for you and not for me and others, especially given that I tried it on a vanilla machine with no extra goodies. Hmm!
