I can’t seem to copy and paste existing projects to a new file? Is this not possible?
It is not possible to copy-paste between Carbide Create instances.
You can write out a .c2d or .svg file from one, and then use the “Import External File” button to import the contents of the file.
I’m able to do it. First file, Ctl A to select all. Then Ctl C to copy
Open new file and Ctl V to paste. Just tried it and that works.
Also just opened and existing file and copied a former layout into it.
Am I reading the question wrong?
That’s weird I’m using version 652 and I did exactly the same thing. I will try it again.
OK that’s different than the reply. I got a minute ago from someone else really confused now. Thanks anyway
I was unable to do the copy / paste last time I tried. I will again and check my version. I use the method @WillAdams mentions. One side affect is that it brings in all the tool paths as well that can be a plus or minus depending on your use case.
If you don’t need toolpaths use File | Export SVG… and then import the SVG file.
Yes, I think this makes sense but I certainly would look at adding this since most Windows programs allow this. Thank you for the information
I’m using Windows 11 and CC 756. and tried a file with 3D modeling and it did copy the design into the new file with Ctl.A and Ctl.C and Ctl V, but did not copy the tool paths nor the actual modeling setup.
Just FYI. Not sure why it doesn’t work for others??
Just for what it is worth, I’m am using CCPro. Not sure that should make any difference, but just fyi.
I could have sworn I’ve used CTRL-C, CTRL-V to copy vectors from one session to another.
Just tried it in 757 & it didn’t work. ??
You can Copy/Paste in your file manager & rename the copy.
You can Save As… in CC & give it a new name.
You can open a new .c2d file, and import the previous .c2d file.
You can export .SVG & import it to the new project.
If it’s something you might use a lot, export the .svg & save it in
C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Carbide 3D\Carbide Create\library\[My Library] and it will be available through the library.
@Tod1d which OS version are you on?
I am Win 10 with CC Pro 756 and I just tried vectors and models copy/paste and I got no where.
@Frank246 is on Win 11, maybe that is a difference. Or who knows, with Windows these days it may be some permission/setting that needs to be turned on.
My new laptop with Win 11 arrives tomorrow. I will try it there once I get through all the initial setup nonsense.
Yes, I am using windows 11 myself. I think William Adams has the idea with copying and pasting the SVG and importing it. Thanks for everyone’s help!
Just tried this in Win11 with built 757 (free):
Works:
Copy design (ctrl-a, ctrl-c)
Open new design in same window (closes current file)
Paste design (ctrl-v)
Doesn’t Work:
Copy design (ctrl-a, ctrl-c)
Open new window (two instances open at once)
Paste design (ctrl-v)
Ah. I have always been trying between two open windows.
Using Win 11 ver. 22H2
Correct, can’t have two CC open at the same time. Copy and paste works with all (Ctl. A) or any portion of the file highlighted and CLT C.
Must close the file your are coping from before opening a new or another existing file. Ctl. V then works for me.
If that doesn’t work, maybe there is some setting in Win that may need to change. Wouldn’t know what it would be, but something must be diff.
Actually, this can be done.
In Windows if you double-click on a .c2d file it will open in a new instance (at least on all the machines I’ve tried this on thus far).
For a Mac, if you duplicate the application, either under a different name, or to your user Applications folder (I’d still use a different name) you can run each copy separately.
I think what @Frank246 meant was that you can’t copy between two open windows/sessions. You copy from on and close it then open a new and paste. My day job is in the way of me testing that right now.
Correct. You can have two windows open, just not when trying to copy between them.
I guess my English is lacking,
