Im trying to create a cylinder on CC Pro. it’ll actually be a glass laying down. When I design it and model a round shape, it round all 4 sides. I want the sides round but the top and bottom flat. any suggestions?
I would just design it longer and 2d mill off the top and bottom but there will be another object at the top which also needs to be shaped round.
You will need to model longer, then draw in geometry and add/subtract to the model (probably using Equal) to square off the ends.
That said, if you find yourself fighting a program thus, it’s probably better to find one better suited to the task — for 3D modeling, my recommendation would be Alibre Atom 3D:
Throw out a sketch with dimensions & show the interfering piece.
We can work up a quick tutorial
yep. thats what I did. but the problem is I have another object right at the end of the “cylinder”. I can’t believe how bad CC pro is.
If you are running into difficulties using Carbide Create Pro, our recommendation would be a true 3D CAD system as suggested above.
here is a cup outline I’ll pocket and fill with clear epoxy. then cut the drink out and fill with brown epoxy. then use CC Pro to shape the cup onto a round. then slightly round the spilt liquid. It sounds simple, but CC Pro don’t seem to be able to do it.
I’m imagining something like this cross section? With the outer part being clear, the inner part and the spilled liquid being brown?
So… I don’t have CCpro but I think you are looking for a two rail sweep…and I think Pro has it. After you cut the pockets you are filling and then should use a two rail sweep (set at different depth/angles/radius) to cut the finished pieces?
this is pretty much what I’m looking for. although the lower larger sweep should follow the lines of the cylinder “cup”. CC pro don’t have anything like that sweep you showed.
That would be ideal. but not really possible in CC pro. it would be a multis step process.
I would do the clear.
cure.
cut and do the brown.
cure.
shape with cnc.
do more clear.
cure.
reshape for the final result.
I know I could do it in Shaper 3D. but this is just a hobby and I can see paying the overprice of that.
As noted, in Carbide Create Pro, this would be a multiple step thing, probably it would be necessary to selectively enable/disable parts.
If you upload the file you are having difficulty with, we can look into this with you.
That did not finish uploading:
[Processing: Milk and Donut.c2d…]()
I’ll try to upload it again
Apparently I’m unable to upload the file. Keeps giving an error.
Upload to a public drive such as Google Drive and post the link?
Cut pocket for brown & pour.
Cut pocket for clear and rough & finish the brown.
Pour the clear.
Remove the outside wood down to the level of the spill.
Rough & finish the clear.
Pour the spill
Rough & finish the spill along with the remaining outside stock.
So the brown model is built oversize, but the cut is limited by a boundary.
I was just wondering whether you could grab an stl file of a cup from one of the 3D printing repositories like thingiverse and use that as a starting point. It looks like they have an assortment of splashes too
