So, I’m getting ready to develop a personal “texture toolpath library” doing both the toolpaths and the samples so I know exactly what I will get when I am looking to create something with texture
I got to thinking… would anyone be interested in joining me in this adventure? I figure if 3-6 of us worked on it, we could come up with a pretty awesome library that people could reference to create the exact texture they are looking for.
@SirGariff Great idea! I haven’t used textures much and always struggle to “see” what I’m going to get when I do design one.
That said I’d like to incorporate more of them in my designs especially when I make signs.
Are you thinking that texture designs are made, cut, pics taken and then posting them somewhere? CutRocket might be a good place if there was a Texture category…
Are you talking about just using different parameters with the texture toolpath in CC?
Or additional textures like tortoise shell, stippling, knurling, dragon scale, etc… along with the vectors & toolpaths to use them?
CC texture toolpath is somewhat limited in the textures it can create. I think it’s meant to simulate carving out an area with a gouge chisel.
I’ve made other textures using vectors or modeled shapes that could be included, but the library would need to accommodate multiple data types and processes.
Someone had asked me for a dragon scale pattern to apply to a handgun grip. I modeled it in NX & output a STL for them to import…
You bring up some good logistical points. I think it’s one of those things of trying it and tweaking it (just like everything CNC related!)
I like @Jeffish 's idea of coming up with them and posting on CutRocket. I might reach out to them and see if they would be willing to create another category for textures
