Cut depth in carbide create

On a 2.0mm thick stock when using conture cut there is a start depth and a max depth
if t choose a .05 start depth and a max depth of 2.01, how many passes will the machine make? 2 or will it go around many times at a depth of.05 untill it cuts 2.01mm
hope im explaining this correct
im trying to figured most of this out before my 3020 shows up
thank you

It’ll make as many passes as necessary using the depth per pass value in the tool settings.

You may be confusing the “Start Depth” (where the tool starts cutting relative to the height of your stock) and the “Depth Per Pass” (how deep the cutter goes each pass). The depth per pass is in the Edit Tool window.

See the screenshot below. Blue for the Start Depth and red for the Depth Per Pass.

oooh
thank you clearing that up for me…

so really for flat stock you want start depth to be 0 so it starts at top of stock…

Yes 0 at the top of the stock if you picked top of material in setup. If you choose chose bottom (Spoilboard) the CC program still asks you if your start depth of cutting is the top of the material and still asks you the depth. If you want to cut all the way through you can use “t” which is a variable which means bottom of stock. This “t” can be used instead of use stock bottom. The reason this is useful is if you design a project with say .75" material. Then you get ready to cut your stock and your material is .77" just change the material size in setup and re-save the c2d file (v7) and the stock thickness is automatically updated. In earlier versions if the same scenario took place you had to change the stock thickness and then go into each toolpath that cut through and change the stock thickness manually or hit the “Use Stock Bottom” to update the toolpath. For both older and newer (v7) you still have to save the toolpaths and/or c2d file.

Thank you

lol as a NeewB i had to read this a few times to understand it
