Cut depth not working

i could use help with my cut depth. I am running the xxl with the latest version of motion. I have my start depth at 0.00 and cut depth at 0.155. when I finally decided to stop the program I was at .375 and still going. I have triple checked tool paths and my zero, and they are all right. any advice? I’m stumped. This is the first time using the updated version of motion

pls post the project

Any possibility your cutter slipped out of the collet a bit?

Tried different bit to see, 1/4 and 1/8. No difference

Please send in the .c2d file and let us know step-by-step how you are securing your stock and setting zero relative to it and managing all tool changes, and send a photo showing the stock in place and the machine at the zero position relative to it (or a specified offset from that position) and screengrabs showing what Carbide Motion shows for Position and Machine Position (click on either to toggle to the other).

Most of that was over my head. I can say the project was saved as nc. Not c2d. Would that matter?

Here is a picture of the project on table, zero is center, using advanced v carve with 1/8 bit to start

The .nc file will not allow editing the file — it is only G-code/toolpaths to be sent to the machine.

You will need to understand:

  • toolpaths

https://carbide3d.com/hub/courses/create/toolpaths/

as applied to:

  • geometry

https://carbide3d.com/hub/courses/create/shapes/

which generates the desired:

  • 3D preview

https://carbide3d.com/hub/courses/create/simulation/

Then, it will be necessary set up the zero relative to the stock:

https://carbide3d.com/hub/courses/running-shapeoko/movements-zeroing/

so as to match the origin set in the Job Setup:

https://carbide3d.com/hub/courses/create/job-setup/

It will help to understand the terminology used — the community has a glossary:

If you still have difficulty after re-making the file, upload the .c2d file and let us know step-by-step:

  • what you did
  • what you expected
  • what actually happened

Thank you. I will start from the beginning and work through it. I will let you know what happens

In setup, measure from Top or Bottom?
