Cutting air and don't know how to get it to cut

I just got my machine and have not been able to cut anything yet. I have not received my bit zero yet and wanted to start some practice runs. Being a former manual machinist I set up the machine the old fashion way but it still cuts air about an inch and a half above my material.

What are you using as your design software?

One way this can happen is if your design has the Z Zero set as the bottom of the stock, but on the machine the Z Zero is set to the top of the stock.

I zeroed it off on the top of the material. I am using Carbide Create Pro and Carbide Motion 6 .

Where did you specify the Zero-point in your Carbide Create design?

If the deisgn has the Zero point set for the Bottom of the stock & you physically set the machine Z-axis Zero for the top of the stock, then the program will just be running the tool thru the air above the stock.

It is on the top of the stock currently. I am going to give your idea a try. Thank you!

It didn’t work. It is still cutting air.

If you still have difficulties, upload your .c2d file, let us know step-by-step how you are securing your stock and setting zero relative to it and managing all tool changes, and upload a photo showing the stock secured in place and the machine at the zero point or a specified offset from it and we should be able to sort this out with you.

Thank you. That helped.
