Cutting mixed (carbon fiber) material sign/plaque

Has anyone made one of these or something similar?

I’m going to make something like this for my son’s coach and just wondering if anyone has tried something similar and can offer some tips… The picture is from someone’s ETSY site where they say they cut the “state” from plywood on their CNC and then attach the wood strips to the base and trim/finish those by hand, but they don’t mention the part with the hockey sticks.

I wonder if it would be faster/easier to fasten the wood strips and hockey sticks to the base, then use the CNC to cut it all out in one go. Or is that just asking for more trouble? The hockey sticks are carbon fiber, also not sure what bit would be best…

Appreciate any help!

If you can reasonably estimate the outline to make sure the sticks are cut a bit long. Or you could draw the outline on with the machine.
I think carbon fiber is typically cut with a burr. I imagine the hollow stick will fray when cut, especially on the inside face. You could fill the ends before cutting with wood plugs or putty/bondo.

Ex biomed engineer here. I would be really cautious about cutting the carbon fiber without a REALLY good dust management system.
