Cutting to the right of a line?

I’m trying to cut to the right of a line, but it seems I’m required to have a closed shape, but that seems inefficient - is there a way to tell carbide to cut to the right of a line?

For example, if need to leave 8(ish)" of a 9" wide board, but my line is wavy - how do I do that without creating a closed design?

The simplest example is ripping the board and needing to leave a very precise amount to the left - how would I do that with the CNC design without cutting around the entire board or making it an entire shape?

To simplify the question - how do I tell the software to cut to the right or left of a line when I’m using the entire board length and width and not able to make a closed shape?

That is what a Contour with Offset Direction set to either Outside / Right or Inside / Left may be used for:

Unfortunately, the directionality is a bit confusing and there isn’t any control over this other than the afore-mentioned drop-down since there isn’t a command for reversing a path’s direction in Carbide Create.

If you create the line as one entity (so, one polyline or one curve), then “Inside” (or “outside”) will always be on just one side of that polyline or curve. The problem arises when you have two or more of these, then they don’t have to agree.

You can always add nodes, so you can “extend” your line or curve, or add more corners to it, without starting over.

If you’re having problems with a single line cut you can always just make the curved cut line you want and then close a vector as seen below in my simple illustration.
