Happy ro be back on the forum. I got a shapeoko 4 xxl a year or two ago and I’ve used it I think once, maybe twice despite my best efforts I just haven’t had the space to use it plus its loud as hell so can just stick it outside on a sunny day.
I had the idea of trying to see if theres nomad thats just the frame so I could just cut out most of the cost and get a desktop cnc using the shapeoko 4 router, motors, controller, etc. But can’t find one I’m thinking of just improvising a smaller frame so I can use the shapeoko inside, but wanted to get some info first.
Given the plan here is there anything you guys would see as being an issue, like incompatibility of the controller for a custom, smaller frame/cutting area, etc.
I think trying to turn an SO4 into a Nomad would be a lot of issues. As @WillAdams suggested sell the SO4 and buy the Nomad new/used. Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are good places to sell your machine. On craigslist I never put my address but only the zip. That is a safety precaution to not advertise your address. When someone calls (I add my cell phone in “reply” and if someone seems serious I give them my address to come and view it.
