Question of the weekend is…can I replace the metal slots on the Shapeoko 5.0.

That sucks! I would debur the tracks and keep on cutting. I would have to have more damage than that before I replaced the T track. But that’s just me… Could you just swap them around and leave you’re customized T track on the back of the machine?
I hope so, pal…I hope so! I still haven’t run my poor CNC again to see how she’s doing. It hurts my

My problem is I run her as fast as possible. This is what she gets when I might have my earphones on and am possibly distracted for way too long! Or something like that. 
I think you can get replacements. Send a note to tech support.

Thankfully, the Shapeoko 5.0 Pro is a beast of a machine and is working like a champ after the mishap. Wouldn’t even know that anything had happened if you go by how the machine is running. Not by the looks of the table though! I’m not sure that my analness will allow me to keep the table as-is. We shall see.

I do a wood glue and saw dust mix for repairs before resurfacing.
I leave battle scars as a reminder that I am clueless and need to pay attention.
I know how you feel Gary. This last week my Pro 5 4x4 got an acid bath. Setting next to my machine is my 5000 watt generator. On top of that is a deep cycle battery on a tender. Last Sunday night we were woken up by a loud crash but couldnt determine where it came from. Monday morning I went looking again and found one of the f-tube light bulbs broken all over the garage floor. Not understanding why that would happen to a light fixture that has been there for over 10 years I went in for a closer look. That’s when i discovered the deep cycle battery had shorted and exploded! It dumped acid all over the machine and really messed up the spoil board. Replacing it this week.
Gary, welcome to the family… And yes, they have replacement aluminum rails. Please do not ask how I know… I even always have some replacements.
Holy crap!! What the heck (that is the extent of my cussing). That is absolutely nuts. I really hate that for you!
I’m just thankful that I’m back in business with nothing really lost but a little of my pride and a little bit of disposable wood and some scratches on some aluminum.
Steve: I feel very sorry for you! These batteries are NO FUN! Luckily no one stood beneath that monster when it exploded! GL! And pls use acid proof gloves when you clean the mess. Please. Getting goosebumps just now when I only think of that.
Thank you Matthias. I’m glad that I wasn’t working on the machine when it happened. I used alcohol to clean up the machine as much as possible. Unfortunately the acid was on the machine for about 12 hours before I discovered it. The right side Y-axis ball screw and rail got some acid on them. After a thorough cleaning and re-lubrication the spots look stained but they look to run well. It might be a real fine etching but I’m hoping it will be OK. I’m replacing the spoil board this week. Every spot the acid landed on the spoil board the board blew up.
I’d guess worst case for your ball screws is premature failure but the balls will probably just average out any fine etching that may have happened. Run it until it proves to be an issue is what I’d do 
The only thing you can be sure of is that when it fails it will be a time of critical need.
Have you tried some duct tape!?!
