After six years of using my Shapeoko 3 XL, I’ve started experiencing the infamous disconnect issue. My machine is heavily modified using best practices in grounding and EMI rejection. In this case, I’ve traced the issue to my laptop USB controllers. I’ve also seen this with USB drives and USB-to-Serial (RS-232) adapters. If you’re experiencing these disconnect issues, try switching to a different USB port on your PC. Sometimes, a single port can become problematic and require a reset. Driver updates are also helpful.
It’s nice that Carbide Motion retains my zero settings so restarting/modifying the program doesn’t scrap the project.
