Distorted Circles after multiple blind holes

I’ve double check the wheels and have replaced the belts and it doesn’t seem to have helps. What else should I check?

In the image you can see the distortion getting worse from the bottom left to right. Also the lead in and lead out seem to be shifting.

What tool are you using? What feeds and speeds?

Is your machine mechanically sound?

Are you cutting a slot just as narrow as the tool?

  • Shapeoko 3 XXL using 1/4" square end mill, Makita Router. 17k RPM, 80in/m.

  • I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. It takes a couple tries to initialize. I made another thread and you recommended going through a troubleshooting link and nothing helped on that page. I’ll keep trouble shooting but the machine does initialize after a few attempts.

  • Yes it’s a 1/4" contour for the outer line. I’ll try a roughing and finishing pass.

Just taking a shot… have you checked the pulleys?

The set screws have the potential of backing out then the pulleys rotate on the motor shafts. Checking by hand might work but using a marker to draw a line across the ID of the pulley and end of the motor shaft before running a test cut would make movement easier to see.
