I’m setting up a new Shapeoko Pro and when I power up the control board, I see no LEDs on nor can I detect the USB from my Mac. Carbide has sent me another control board and power supply and I see the same thing! No LEDs and no USB enumeration on the Mac. Is my Mac failing to detect a working board? Or are both boards dead?
I’ve tried probing the voltage at the power supply output, I see 24.5V, I see that 24.5V on the first few components of the control board but then the rest of the board shows no voltage on the 5V header pins. Can both boards really be broken the same way?
I see a white component near the silkscreen “POWER” on the PCB. It has a diode symbol next to it in the silkscreen as well. It has nothing inside of it. Is this a fuse or something that is missing?
Let me know if you have any ideas what’s going on here. I’m baffled.
Support will help you. I have an extensive electronics background. Having the same symptom with two sets of components is not usually the components. Support will help you but I would start with unplugging the power supply and unplugging all the cables on the board that you installed during installation. Then see if you get any led lights on the board after powering up the power supply and plugging the power supply in. If you do get lights then plug one cable at a time until you get a failure. Something may be shorting out the power supply like a pinched wire or a mis wired cable. This should not take long to do and may get you up and running.
If you see no lights after unplugging your cables then wait for support.
Thanks for the tips. I thought that one of the motors/sensor/bitsetter could be pulling down the voltage so I unplugged everything on the first board and it still had no lights.
On the second board, I powered it up before plugging it in to anything (only grounding it the chassis) and same result. No LEDs. Really weird…
Wow that was it. The power cable to the machine has the switch in series so if the switch cable is not plugged in, it won’t power up. I would have thought the USB power was directly but guess not. Thanks for the help.
