To all my canadian friends, I need a new down cut rotour bit… i purchased my first one in a kit from IDC woodcraft from amazon. I need a replacement but I cant seem to find one separately sold. What would you recommend.
I bought a Grizzly 1/8" downcut bit. It works great and has a deeper cut than the #102 which is an upcut from C3D. I think Grizzly is a Canadian based company. I looked at Lee Valley but they only had up cut bits. You might call them but none on their website. Grizzly had down cut bits in a lot of diameters.
The weird thing about Canada and US trade is if you import from the US you have to pay a lot of fees. So what was the point of the US/Canada/Mexico trade agreement. The main thing the US got from that is dangerous Mexican 18 wheelers running up and down our roads on the way to Canada. Dont understand why Canadians have to pay fees to get US goods. Lee Valley has stores in both the US and Canada so they just ship from the stores in the country the order is from avoiding the import fees. Go figure???
The fees you pay when you import from the US are not duties and tariffs - that’s what’s covered by the trade agreements. You would pay GST on the value of the product, and you pay fees TO THE IMPORTER (which would be the transportation company) for their ‘service’ of clearing customs on your behalf.
If you bring stuff across the border yourself, you pay the GST and that’s it.
I’ve gotten a few downcut/compression bits (1/4" & 1/16") from Spetools on Amazon - found them to be quite decent & no outrageous import duty fees. However, the current Canada Post strike may affect getting any Amazon order. I ordered a replacement 3D printer nozzle from Amazon a week & a half ago, came from the US. Basically got stuck in limbo as soon as it cleared the border. No idea if I’ll ever see it.
