I should know this. I tend to err on the side of caution and include duplicate manual process steps to all carving. Here’s the deal. If I have four exactly duplicate jobs to run at separate times on identical blanks once the first one is complete do I need to run through the initialization and bit setting process before running the rest of the jobs? That is, is it possible to just press run again ?
If you have a way to ensure the zero is correct for each successive piece you should be good to go.
You wouldn’t need initialization again even if they were different, just setting the XYZ zeros.
The stock pieces are exactly the same size and thickness. Thanks!
Let her rip. If you want between jobs in Jog is the rapid positions. One is the current X and Y and the other is Z +6mm. So if in doubt before you hit start check the positions in Jog. You dont need to reload the file unless you changed something. Just hit start for each successive job.
X Y and Z are kept between jobs. Even if you shutdown the machine.
So just change de piece of wood and restart. I do that often.
I suggest you use something like this to keep the X and Y in a repeatable location.
I’m on the “push the run button again” side of this conversation. With a big caveat: you MUST know that the stock is in EXACTLY the same spot. I have a dogs that set my piece square on a side and bottom. Once I run a sign, I flip it over without reinitializing or resetting zero. And…if I’m running multiple signs the same size, I’m able to count on my zeros being correct. As soon as I turn off the machine, I always have to initialize AND set zeros again.
You can see my set up with the dogs here:
Thanks I’m leaning that way as well but with a test piece or two. Thanks!
That’s a fantastic idea and jig. In fact, it’s the one I posted and use. ![]()

It’s a small CNC world we live in…lol…
It certainly is. Glad you thought it was worthy.
