Duplicating a layout

… learn how to duplicate this layout.

Counting squares we get 11 x 10, doubling that to 200%:

Drag into position and adjust to line up as best one can:

Done

Use the Curve tool to draw things, lining up with the grid (for dimensional accuracy), but using the background image as a guide:

Note that only half needs to be drawn, since it is symmetrical — two possible approaches here:

  • draw half, duplicate, and then mirror and join
  • draw both sides, duplicate, mirror, then average the twain out — this is a good strategy if one has the support of being able to align nodes and the part’s complexity warrants it, neither of which is the case here

Done

Note that we want a half position, so reducing the Grid spacing to 1":

Ok

Go into Node Edit mode and adjust things to line up:

A trick for maintaining spacing of two nodes while also getting alignment is to get out of Node Edit mode:

Draw a rectangle:

which can then be used to re-work things using Trim Vectors:

The same thing may be done to ensure that elements are horizontal and positioned as desired along the centerline.
