Dust collector upgrade

After cutting out a bunch of guitar templates from MDF yesterday (Fender-style guitar templates by ReallyBadJuJu), my 5gal dust seperation bucket was well over half full. I am using the extra quiet dewalt shop vac with a cyclone head on a bucket. I’ve upgraded to a different cyclone head on top of a 30 gal drum.

I would be concerned with loss of suction given the increased static pressure with the massive increase in bucket volume. I’m no mechanical engineer but if you see a drop in suction power, that might be why. If there’s no issue then awesome! Also, enjoy rolling that thing out of there when it gets full…you may want to put it on a dolly with casters to move it out easier, or even move it around to other tools as needed.

It has a really good seal, and it doesn’t seem to have any issue creating suction from what I can tell. My trash cans are right on the other side of the garage door, so if I need to, I could just scoop it out until it was light enough to dump.

I have another Delta blower-type barrel-top collector on the other side of shop for my larger power tools, and another shop vac that sits in my main workbench for hand tools and the tools I am building into the bench itself e.g.

I’ll be adding a fold-down miter station and my table saw to that bench in the future. The 5-gal bucket separator I just freed from the CNC is going to the shop vac under the bench to save me having to replace that bag so often as well.
