Eliminate lines between letters

How to eliminate lines between letters. I have played with retract height in settings and step over on the tool option in advance vcarve. I even tried a contour, it doesn’t offer a step over option, but it still has a faint line between the letters. Thanks.

Attached is my advanced vcarve example and contour.

Where did you set the zero relative to the stock?

How did you set it?

What is your safety/retractheight to?

Is it possible that the machine lost steps on Z?

Definitely looks like something is incorrectly set regarding the Z zero-point as the tool is not retracting high enough to get above the material surface for rapid movements between V-carve paths.

I am manually zeroing my x, y, and z by locating the center of my material and taking the bit down until it touches the board. This seems to be working fine, except for the lines between the letters.
For the contour example, I have the settings set to Thickness (Z) .75 in from the Top. Retract is set to .01.
For the Advance VCarve example, the retract is set to .07. I tried another example and set the retract to .03. I stuck with the step over as 0.008 for both. It seemed to get better. So I am hoping that I am on the right track.

I have had no luck using the Bit Setter.

How flat is your material? If your retract height is not enough to move the tool end over the highest ‘bump’ in your material, it’s going to contact.

If your material is not perfectly flat & parallel to the spindle movement, this can also lead to rapid movement contact.

Also, how deep are your V-bit settings (DOC)? If you’re pushing the bit too deep too fast, the Z axis can lose steps & it can show up as unintended behavior.

Have you checked if your Z zero-point is the same after a cutting run as it was when you set it?
