Emergency STOP Error

I am currently attempting a V-carve letters into my board. I noticed the the bit is cutting on air (assuming I have incorrectly set zero incorrectly or something in my set up). My main concern is when I hit the red emergency STOP button the spindle decides to drive the bit aggressively into my material as it is turning off. This feels dangerous. Am I doing something wrong here?
Photo attached since I can`t upload video of the event.

The Emergency Stop is for when safety is at stake. When you press it, the stock/part should be the least of your concerns.

If the machine is working but things are not going as desired, then pause and cancel.

OK. so use pause only and if I need to stop then do it on Carbide Motion. I will try this. Thank you.

Just an update for anyone else having the same issue. On the v-carving zero issue where I was cutting on air I did need to lower my zero axis 2 mm on the start-depth (which by the way my zero was was good for the rest of the job. I used the Bit-zero 2.0. I was told this is common using a vcarve tool). As for the emergency STOP issue I was also advised when the machine stops the weight of the spindle will push it down as the bit is spinning to a stop. So to avoid this I successfully stop it using the stop on Carbide Motion

I’m not exactly sure what machine and spindle you have but I have the SO 5 Pro with the 65 mm spindle. I had issues where sometime after powering off the machine, the spindle would slowly descend and drive the bit into the MDF waste board. I was worried that it might miss the waste board and drive an expensive V-bit into the aluminum rails so I bought their gas strut kit.

Per C3Ds website …

The Gas Strut is not required for the 65mm spindle, but it can help reduce spindle drop when the machine is powered off.

Since I’ve installed the kit, I haven’t had any issues with the spindle staying in position.

Before I power off the controller, I try to remember to put a piece of something under the spindle that stops it from dropping into whatever comes first.

The spindle does not always fall down, but enough so I do this.
