Engraving Aluminum with v-bit .04 doc

Hi all! It’s my first post!!!

I’m trying to figure out the best engraving settings for the piece I’m working on.

In my previous attempts, my 1/8 30 degree bits have broken when I get half way though the job (small font in picture) . They were ordered for me from McMasters, I do have some 30 degree spot drills on order from Drillman1.

Final depth .04, should I run multiple passes at say .01?

I’m not at the computer to pull fusion up, but I believe my S&F were roughly the following.
Feed:12
Speed: 18000
Doc:.04

I have no hands-on experience of using Vbits in aluminium, but @Vince.Fab had this to say, and he does have experience:

I did not quite get your speed, is it really 1800 RPM ? or is it missing one zero and it’s really 18.000 ?

Ah, yes, missing a 0 with my speed! Thank you for sharing!

the pb with Vbits is that the tip has a surface speed of zero, so it basically rubs against the surface. I would think that reducing depth per pass is indeed a good move

That did the trick… .01 steps.
