Engraving with fine bits

I have a need to cut some smaller finer detail. Just wanted to get some input. I have been using 60 and 90 degree v’s carving detail just fine. Time to do the cuts doesn’t take a lot of time. I looked up and picked out a 30Deg engraving bit that was preloaded in CC already the Amana 45771-k. It is loaded as an engraving bit and not a vBit. When i try to do vcarve’s with it, it shows only dots in the preview but the cuts it displays in the toolpaths view shows ok. It just isn’t acting like a traditional vbit. Am I just using the wrong type of bit to do what i’m trying to do?

Use a definition for the V endmill which allows V carving:

Is this a copy of what you’ve used for this bit? or did you make it up? the feedrate seems pretty high and depth per pass?. ill try to manually re-create the tool in the Vcarve section. I didn’t know that made a difference. Thanks

Yes, I’ve used that successfully in hardwood.

RPM should probably be 17 or 18,000 RPM though — need to fix that.
