First Masking Sign Project

I tried using @luc.onthego recommended WalMart shelf paper for a mask with good results. Solved a huge problem for me. Thanks!

My wife’s aunt is 86 and always wanted a sign for her “Texas ranch”. The color is just a little Mexican, but fits a south Texas ranch.

Nice, clean edges, looks great!

How difficult is it to remove the mask?

Griff, the mask mostly comes off in one big piece, but the intricacies of the carve around the smaller letters get in the way, too.

I had stained the wood, put on a couple of coats of shellac and clear coated lightly before adding the mask. Lots of drying time in between coats.

I also did an intricate skeleton skull about 1" square on another piece. Lots of the mask stayed in place so I could paint the outline, but it wasn’t near perfect. This less-detailed sign was easy.
