Font Issue between Computers

Discovered an issue that makes sense, but can cost you money and time (plus the accompanying crash out…)

I run CC in my office to make the designs, and a tablet Windows PC at the machine to run Carbide Motion. It also has CC on it in case I want to make any adjustments, run a flattening path, etc. The computers are file sharing with a Google drive so I’m not running USB drives back and forth.

What I discovered is that if you use a certain font that you download and add to your library on the design laptop, and make ANY changes to the file on the machine PC, and the machine PC doesn’t also have that font downloaded into it’s font library, it will change your font to something else and your design will come out wrong. I’m not even talking a font change, maybe just a depth of stock change, anything.

I’m sure someone has already mentioned this, or perhaps some will say, duh, but I wasn’t aware that making a simple change to something not related to text on the machine laptop would do this and thus, here we are talking about it.

Just a heads up in case it keeps someone from the same problem…

A font change should be reflected when the toolpaths are re-generated by it and shown in the 3D preview.

Work-around is of course to dupe the text (say to a hidden layer) then Convert to Curves (and to ensure that only one of the twain is associated with the toolpath).

Can we at least get a warning from CC if it sees a file that references a font that it doesn’t have? The whole silent substitution thing is a really bad outcome.
