Would you add a feature to frame the outline of the project, similar to how a laser engraver does so? Basically, allow the machine to follow the trace of the extent of the project (maybe 10mm above the highest point) to see where the project will lay on the material. Not only will this ensure minute alignment, but it would also prevent mistakes of having the wrong zero point before cutting (guilty).
