I’ve got a Shapeoko 3 xl and have been using an older version of Motion. I recently upgraded to version 636 and am struggling with constant automatic tool measurement. My usual strategy is to set zero at my spoil board, the jog up to the material height I have entered into my toolpath, not the actual thickness of the material . This accounts for any variation in material thickness, if it’s half a mm thicker, no big deal, just a deeper cut with the first pass and no cutting of the spoil board. I also some times use the machine as a measuring device just to remove one step and possible measurement errors.
With this version of Motion I end up with excessive tool measurement passes. It’s frustrating.
Is there an earlier version without the automatic tool measurement? I feel that I can be trusted to do this safely without being overridden by Motion.
The tool measurements have been markedly reduced in more recent versions — please try build 649:
We do have older versions (builds 622 and 582) at:
Thanks Will, I’ll try it.
