Fusion 360, post process NC file not working anymore:(

Hey guys,

Need some help. It’s been a few months since I used Fusion 360, so not sure if something has changed. When I select a tool operation and go to Post Process, it won’t allow me to save the file as a “NC file”, i.e. it doesn’t show the file ext when trying to safe. Nothing has changed on my end, have done it hundred of times before. Is there something new that has changed in F360 or is it that it only works with the “paid version” now ?:frowning:

Thanks!

What post processor?
Can you share the saved file here?

Also using the free version of Fusion 360. I think that it doesn’t automatically add the .nc when saving (maybe a recent change?) but you can just type it at the end. The file with and without an extension seem to function exactly the same.

Thanks for reaching out guys. Greenleaf, you are on to something:) Not sure why it has changed, but you are right, when it you try to save the file, it doesn’t add the .nc extension:( You have to add it after you save it. When you simulate the file, all seems good. Another extra step, I guess we shouldn’t complain as its “free”

Hey Neil. Carbide 3D.

Here’s what it looks like:

What happens if you try the GRBL post processor?

Same thing, doesn’t have any file ext Neil:(

That’s weird. Maybe it’s a Mac thing?
How exactly are you getting to the post process window? Are you clicking the post process button in the tool ribbon?

i have never had the extension created on a mac. Older versions of CM would allow me to select it without an extension. The new version does not so i have to make sure i add it when saving

There should be a line in the post-processor which allows specifying the extension to be used.

Yeah, it used to on a mac. I switched to windows for fusion 360 when they stopped supporting High Sierra but still force the update. When I can afford solidworks or equivalent I will be dropping fusion for that reason alone (forced updates).

On the other hand, this is an easily solvable issue, you already have to name the file, just add the “.nc”…

There is. It works on Windows without a problem.

I don’t think that line to append file with .nc is part of the post-process options window in the mac version anymore.

It’s actually part of the post processor (.cps file).

Curious, do you have it “open in NC editor” when post processing?

@neilferreri I’ll take your word for it as I no longer have the mac version and can’t check. I just don’t see it in the mac pics posted above, and that layout looks quite different from what I remember seeing a year ago on a mac…

Its weird, it worked fine before and never had a problem before, I think Neil might be right, a Mac thing:(

Using Carbide 3D for post processor. I just add the file ext .nc and ran it in simulator and it look fine. Just a PITA having to do the extra steps:(

Thanks for your help gang!

There is no option for extension on Mac fusion. Needs to be typed in

Iwonder if this is related to Create not generating file extensions on Macs. When you post process, does the file have a name? Or is the entire filename area blank?

On post process, no name or file ext, has to be typed in manually:(
