Fusion 360 to Draw Part Profile

Hi Guys! Very excited, I used Fusion 360 today to design and export the gCode to manufacture a part on my Shapeoko 5 Pro.

It’s a wooden copy of a setup block that Woodpecker is currently selling. Just wanted to see if I could do it.

I really enjoy the greater flexibility of drawing in Fusion. Setting up the file for Carbide Motion was a bit involved, as you have control of many more parameters. Only one bit was used the #102 1/8" flat end mill. However the part came out dang good; it’s even usable!

One thing I really liked was that the contour was cut out in one pass with multiple step downs. Carbide Create divided the path up into multiple segments, each one using multiple steps downs. The file created with Fusion360 finished much faster and multiple finishing cuts netted really clean edges. Big fun.

I looked at the picture before reading your post and the thing looked familiar. Bingo it is a setup tool. Woodpeckers and Blue Spruce send me email all the time. Frankly they are too expensive for my budgets. (FYI Blue Spruce is owned by Woodpeckers)

Nice work.

Thanks. I almost pulled the trigger on a set from Woodpeckers. They do seem useful, but $139 is expensive. I just thought I’d try to see if I could make one. I carved it out of curly maple. It’s very accurate.

I bought this set on Amazon for $40.00 and they are quite useful. A far cry from the Woodpecker prices.

Wow! I did not know that set existed. I’ll check it out. Thanks!
