Any Nomad owners give this a try? Pondering giving this one a shot on my Nomad - just want a wider, broader, below stock top clamping system that doesn’t involve me always pulling out the superglue and blue tape
Not enough money, space, (too much noise?) for a vacuum type system? Pucks and a pump are like 150$
That is an excellent question! Will have to think about whether that is an option - noise is a factor, but maybe not the worst.
For what it’s worth, the vacuum pumps are somewhat quieter than air compressors in my experience.
Regardless, let us know how it goes
I might end up with a vacuum fixture for my nomad, if I do I’ll make a post about the experience
Just a quick in-progress update. I did end up picking up the Genmitsu vise on sale for $45. It’s no high precision machinist vise but seems pretty decent for the price and it sank my plans to make my own vise simply by virtue of comparing the cost with my McMaster Carr cart for vise material.
Machining adapters to fit the bed - still a work in progress.
Vacuum system priced out and waiting for a time when I need it.
Nice!
Out of curiosity, could you share your vacuum plans (or even just the costs)? I’m thinking of putting one in my Nomad relatively soon
Maybe I could build your vac setup for myself and you’ll get the benefit of hindsight for free
For what its worth I was thinking of starting low-end on a vacuum setup and see what happens
2 x Sainsmart 4x4 vacuum pods - should be able to just fit 2 side by side by side on table.
Around $80
1 x vevohome 1/4 hp vacuum pump - in the reviews there is mention of someone using it for vacuum pods. Not sure of its durability but again for the price worthy for testing the concept.
Somewhere around $80
Various hoses and adaptors around $30
I suspect one of the challenges here is the fact we have a moving table on the Nomad instead of a moving gantry and that means the vacuum hose has to be flexible enough to move with the table but rigid enough not to collapse under vacuum. Was thinking some sort of drag chain or z-fold mechanism but again the hose might not be flexible enough. Was thinking of feeding it out the slot in the back left of the enclosure.
