Purchased my machine in 2017, not been using it much until lately. I downloaded Carbide Motion 536 and find that I now have to upgrade the GRBL. I did find and downloaded the GRBL updater on Carbide’s site but it’s about 2 years old and not sure if that’s the one I should be using for this.
Greatly appreciate any help and/or comments on this…
Should have added, I checked and have a Version 2.4D board…
I bought it from Carbide, am now running on a Win 10 64 bit system…
Don’t know what version of GRBL I have…only that 536 Carbide Motion said the GRBL needed to be updated…and I do have homing switches on all three axis…
The current GBRL version is 1.1f. Since 2016 Shapeoko’s have homing switches. You can add them, now they are proximity switches. You may have to buy a new controller if your controller is older then 2.4e. Support can help you if you need a new controller or tell you if your board will work. The controller has the version printed on it. My XXL was was from 2016 and had 2.4e and mechanical switches. I upgraded to proximity switch but the mechanical switches work just as well. The newer versions of CM assume you have homing switch I think. You may still be able to use your machine even without homing switches but they are really good to have.
@Brner2 You can update grbl without the updater if that’s not working (I see no reason it wouldn’t, though).
I’d recommend just running the updater now to get to v1.1.
It may be useful to connect with an older version of motion or some other serial program and record your grbl settings of you had adjusted your steps/mm.
Thank you all for jumping in with your answers…I did contact Support today to find out if the updater was current, they said it should be…so, I gave it a try and it worked great…now have Ver 1.1f installed and tested and everything seems fine…Thanks again for your input…
