Glue pvc together

i tried an experiment to glue 2 pieces of pvc together using pvc glue
I did separate during machining.
bummer, anyone have any luck doing this?

I use Acrylic melt lotion all the time. You cannot tell it was 2 pieces after it’s melted together.
This is what I have.

What is the PVC product? PVC is a fairly generic class of material, and the properties vary a lot. For example, your raincoat may be PVC (yes, I am being presumptive here, but even if you do not have all of these in hand, you probably know what the material is), you shower curtain probably is, the dashboard in you vehicle, the roof and seats of your 1977 Buick, the drain pipes in your house, the fascia board on your 2 year old tract house, and so on.

The properties of each product vary due to the different plasticizers and fillers, and, unfortunately, bonding the various materials requires different techniques. PVC pipe cement is ok for most, but not all, of the more structural materials (synthetic fascia, pipe, and so on), but the technique may need adjustment. I have found that gluing PVC fascia board with pipe type cement is not easy, and my builder friends tell me that some brands bond only with the manufacturers cement.

Pressure and motion are needed (think joining pipe to a fitting: the inside of the socket is tapered, and you push in and twist maybe 90 degrees, or you do not get a good bond) for most PVC bonding (pipe and structural) and pretreatment with a primer may be needed.

Straight solvent, or solvent with a low load of polymer, may not be suitable. You may need to purchase the appropriate cement for the material you are using, or use a special technique. NO ONE can tell you what to do without knowing the particular product you are trying to bond. The wrong technique and cement might make the parts ‘stick’, but the joint may not have the properties of the base material, and the joint may fail.

Versatex trim boards

Their site recommends PVC pipe solvent cement, and gives several acceptable brands. They do not seem to give any particular procedure. https://versatex.com/faqs (there are several places where tehy refer to bonding the material to itself)

One place they specify a product (“If a two-component adhesive is specified, use Extreme Adhesives PVC TrimWelder. It provides a near structural bond to most substrates that is stronger than the product itself.”) that is likely to be suitable.

I would suggest contacting them to see if they have further advice.
