Golf Ball Markers & Divot Tool

Hi Fellow C3D users. I have a Shapeoko 5 Pro and have a couple years experience. I am seeking anyone who could help with files or at least tips on making Ball Markers and/or Divot tools. I want to make these for a charity golf tournament. If not sharing a file maybe suggestions on specific materials and tools?

Photo or sketch of what these might look like?

What material(s) would be suitable?

Yes I watched this one and the video on 5 items to make for Golf enthusiasts. I think I have enough information on the coins to make the markers. One item is a divot repair fork with a marker that is magnetic shown. What I don’t understand is how to make a marker that is magnetic unless it is a pocket with a magnet inset.



These are some examples of markers (can use coin video to make these) the divot tools can be made but I was seeking a patterns or file if anyone had something to share

The magnetic approach is interesting, keeps em together nice and organized. I imagine for whatever you’re going to be cutting, an inset magnet and pocket is the route to go. Alternatively you’d be cutting steel or some other ferrous metal which is doable but a real pain.

If the weight isn’t too much, you may be able to get away with self-adhesive backed magnetic tape or similar (like a fridge magnet) but they’re relatively weak and I don’t think they’d hold up as well as a pocketed neodymium.

No files to share with you unfortunately but maybe someone else can offer something up :crossed_fingers:

Ages ago, found this in a parking lot — as-is my wont, I picked it up (I always pick up anything metal where tires or bare feet run)

should be pretty straight-forward to draw up.

Note however that there is a slight bend, which I believe is part of the design (maybe make a jig/fixture to do that? or use a brake?)

Hang on and we’ll draw this up to scale.

First order of business is to rotate the file, then do Job Setup:

then import the pixel image:

adjusting until things line up (more-or-less)

The smallest the pixel image may be reduced is:

so we will need to draw, then re-size.

First, a rectangle for drawing size/scale and working area:

Then turn off the grid and draw one-half of the design:















One tricky part is the tangent angle:

Measure it from node to node:

then draw a line:

and rotate it:

Done

and move it into position:

and adjust until it lines up reasonably well:

Where necessary, draw in geometry to cut lines:


and if need be, use Node Editing to tweak positions a bit:

Then, just in case, draw crossing geometry:

Select everything which one wishes to work with:

and use the new Region Builder command:

to select the upper half:

If a region is not sub-divided:

Cancel and draw a crossing line:

and try again:

continuing until one arrives at:

If a Region doesn’t quite work:

go into Node Edit mode:

select the errant nodes:

and delete:

Duplicate Select all which is not wanted:

Duplicate the half:

and mirror:

and drag into registration:
