Got my parts. Fixed the issue. Z Axis Stutter and Loss. But I have a question

I just got a new Z axis and an x axis motor. after replacing the parts I ran my shapeoko 4 for a day and a half with no problems. It initializes fine and the sensors work. Today though, when I started a job the Z rose up and made a grinding noise for about 1.5 seconds. I remembered a subs comment about raising the router up in the mount about 1.5 in
After I did that I had no more problems with the Z axis. The response time for the parts was fantastic and all the help from support was great. I spent a lot of time in the social community (which has a wealth of information) looking for answers that were solved far more quickly when I went to Carbide support. Much appreciated. I still do have a problem with losing connection to the cutter in the middle of the job. When I take the plug out of the USB port the computer tells me it doesn’t recognize the device plugged in to the port when i plug it back in. I have to unplug the control box or turn off the switch and turn it back on to initialize the machine. Anybody have any ideas on what may be causing that? I don’t have norton anti virus on my PC. Should I uninstall the CC and reinstall it? I noticed that when I downloaded the CC when I bought the Shapeoko 4 that there was no such version available when I selected the parameters for the machine. All that were available were for the 3 Shapeoko versions before the Shapeoko 4. I assumed that it wasn’t offered because the dimensions of the cutting area are the same as those on the Shapeoko 3 xxl.

What do you have the safety/retract height set to in Job Setup?

.2 inches in the Aspire software I use. Not sure where to find the machine retract height in the shapeoko Carbide settings.

Do you have a Datum set? If so, where and why?

I set my datum in Aspire and I usually apply that to the right corner of my part when I place it into the Shapeoko. I don’t remember setting any datums in Carbide Motion. When I configure Carbide motion to the Shapeoko, am I Supposed to set a datum? When I set up the Shapeoko with the software I was asked which machine I had but there was no option for the Shapeoko 4.

No, an unintentional datum being set in Vectric products is the usual cause of this sort of difficulty if it isn’t excessively large retract height.

Please try making a very simple project in Carbide Create and cutting it — if you have the problem in it, let us know at support@carbide3d.com — if not, replicate the project in the Vectric product you are using — if you have the problem in it, contact Vectric tech support.

Are we looking for a disconnect from the cutter?
