I joined the community back in 2024 but was to busy to actually do anything. I’m out of Boston, looking to connect with some individuals who are part of the community in the area.
Welcome to the forum!
I’m a little far south for you, and a bit warmer as well in central Florida.
Okay, no rubbing in your climate advantage — that’s just rude w/ this evening’s cold snap and so forth.
@TRpl1st Welcome!
Have you tried searching for “Boston makerspace”? That yielded a full page of results when I tried it — is there one close enough to where you live to suit? Even if they don’t have a Shapeoko, the principles (and problems) are the same for pretty much any machine.
What sort of work do you wish to do?
In what material(s)?
Approaching it in what way?
Well…full disclosure I’m at the in-laws in Charleston WV for the holidays. So we run the Turkey Trot in the morning, 29 Deg F the low and 39 Deg F the high. Not what this FL thin blood is used to!
Well, that’s okay then, I guess.
Speaking of holidays, this came up, and I’ve been looking for a place to share it — while it’s a 3D printing project, this is just too perfect:
I’ve had occasion to interact w/ the designer on the OpenSCAD subreddit, and it is just delightful the work which they do and fascinating how they approach it — to bring things back to CNC, it reminds me of a blind machinist who wrote a myriad of programs in C to support their work (and I’ve always wondered if said programs were preserved somewhere)…
Only going to be in the 80’s here today (Florida Coast between Daytona Beach and St. Augustine). But cold front coming in …beautiful days in the 60s and down at 40 at night. We already had a 36 degree day a few weeks ago.
I don’t miss the north Brai … spent 9 years in upstate NY.
Good luck with networking.
What a great find Will, I’ll have a go at this when we return home. Thanks for sharing the project.
Thank you all for your kind and funny responses. I will look into a makerspace and see what I can get from there. The Christmas calendar box is really cool. Enjoy your amazing weather and the holidays.
