I bought a Shapeoko 4 XXL, and due to my not paying attention fired the controller, Carbide was right on it and sent me a new one!! Installed it and everything was fine until I went to initialize my bit setter and the bit went down to the bit setter button and stayed there and made “clicking” noise like the machine was stuck. Now don’t get me wrong, the support for carbide is pretty damn good, but the time difference e from the east coast to the west coast can be a pain! So now after I was directed to swap the bit setter connector to the bit zero pins, nada. So carbide is sending me a new bit setter in the hopes it will correct this. Has anybody else had issues like this?
This is usually your BitSetter is not working correctly. Either it is broken or more likely a connection problem.
To diagnose this problem connect to Shapeoko and connect and do not initialize. Go to Settings and I think debug. There you can test all your sensors. Push down the button on the BitSetter and see if it changes state. If it does not investigate your connectors. Make sure they are securely mated with other connectors and that you plugged it into the right spot on the controller.
When you press the button down the red light should come on. If the red light does not come on then again look at the wiring. One more thing to check is the magnet on your BitZero. The BitZero and the BitSetter are electrically tied together. If your BitZero magnet is grounded it can cause problems with the BitSetter. So make sure your magnet is not touching something on the frame etc.
I just got my new SO5.1 setup a week ago and had 2 issues. First was the Mullinax connector for power to the right Y rail, (the one with the Carbide “C” that lights up green) was bad. The Carbide folks sent me a new circuit board that had what looked to be a 3D printer support around the Mullinax connector, must have been a known weak spot. The second issue I have currently is the VFD spindle controller button on the front does not prevent the spindle from spinning up in either condition on/off. I’m awaiting tech response to my email. Other then that everything else seems to work with no issue.
