What version of GRBL is the HDM shipping with? 1.1 I assume?
1.1 was released six or seven years ago. I can’t imagine it’d be any other version if it still is Grbl (I don’t have an HDM, so I don’t really know). The most recent release was 1.1h.

All Shapeoko/Nomad machines have used and been shipped with 1.1 for at least 5-6 years. I had to update my 2017 Shapeoko 3 from 1.0 to 1.1 right after I first got it.
Is there any benefit to updating to a newer release? I’m more familiar with Marlin for 3d printing.
The benefits are pretty marginal for the letter updates — see the version notes on the Gnea Grbl wiki — Grbl 0.9 to 1.1 is huge though, and necessary to use current versions of Carbide Motion.
