HDM Quality Issues?

I’ve run about a total of 8 hours of projects on my HDM and two bolts have fallen out of critical areas already. The Z axis coupler and the spindle mount. Is this normal? Each time it has broken one of my end mills due to a Z axis slip the first time and the bolt fell into the tool path the second time. Are y’all tightening every bolt on your machines before every run?

Please check in with the folks at support@carbide3d.com and we’ll work out how to handle this.

I’ve added blue loctite to about a dozen screws on mine. And the bearing retainer nuts on the ends of the ballscrews.

Sorry to hear about your issues. Did you check all the fasteners before you started using the machine? Most machinery should come ready to run unless stated otherwise. Based on other machinery and especially routers that vibrate I checked every one I could get to on my S5 Pro. Partially was to check for tightness and the second was to learn where everything was at on the CNC. I also followed up with a 2 hour, 6 hour and 10 hour check.

Please don’t take my question the wrong way, I just don’t think folks understand how much vibration the machine absorbs while cutting and things loosen up. No different than my motorcycle.

I usually check all the screws and V Wheels once a week. For any that I find that have loosened up more than once I add a drop of loctite as well.
