Sorry very new, just curious why when I look in build version 757 of carbide create / carbide pro , it does not list an option for HDM. I see 3, 4, Pro, and 5 Pro. I’m attempting to do my first ever power up of the machine (after having it for over a year)
The Job Setup machine selection is an artifact from when Carbide Create calculated feeds and speeds based on chipload and machine specifics — it no longer does that — it doesn’t matter what is selected at:
beyond it being a reminder.
(putting in a bug report to add Shapeoko HDM)
The place where it is meaningful to choose HDM is in the tooling:
If I select the aluminum toolpaths, would that be the best way to keep it not so aggressive? I use incredibly dense hardwoods, far beyond the domestic ones.
Yes, ages ago, when I was cutting Ipê on my Shapeoko 1, the feeds and speeds which I arrived at were not dissimilar from what I used when cutting aluminum on it, so I would argue that is a valid approach.
You can then use feed rate override to dial in suitable settings.
Alternately, see:
and
the Carbide 3D hardwood feeds and speeds work well in walnut in my experience, so start there.
